We invite parents and fanau of Pasifika students, Years 9-13 to our first fono (meeting) for 2012.
Principal's Welcome
Welcome to Waitakere College, a successful, large co-educational New Zealand Secondary School located in Henderson in the heart of West Auckland.
Our motto -"Achievement for All" - hinges on the three elements of the Waitakere Way: Learning, caring and respect. These tenets guide our decisions and planning to ensure that each student is able to learn and achieve to 'be the best they can be'.
Courses on offer cater for the variety of student needs, from international students to learn English, to local students' learning an international language for their overseas travel.
We have strong relationships with each university in Auckland and nationally, enabling students to follow a successful pathway into tertiary study.

- After school homework centre with tutors
- Monitoring of NCEA progress throughout each year to ensure success
- Gateway programme to apprenticeships and tertiary institutions
- Leadership opportunities via sports, mentoring and cultural activities

Farewell Carina Chan
It is with sadness that we inform our school community that Choy Chin (Carina) Chan died Thursday evening, 10 May. Carina, a teacher aide in ESOL since 2006 has been on sick leave since February of this year. She was hospitalised on Sunday but her health deteriorated rapidly.
She was a great friend and mentor to many students. Carina was a fun loving, compassionate member of the ESOL Department who excelled in her work and made a difference in the lives of those who knew her. Carina, you will be sadly missed and remembered at Waitakere College. We mourn your loss.
Our thoughts go to Carina’s son and daughter here in Auckland and Carina’s family from Malaysia and to her many friends at the College, especially Jenny Thomas and Frances Thyberg who have been supportive to her and her family during her illness.

Wednesday: 9.30am start (to allow teacher professional development to take place)
Finishing times: each day- 3.05pm.
